How long will the Data Use Agreement review process take?

Answer

Depending on the complexity of your DUA and the obligations associated with using the data, it may take from 4 to 6 weeks for all relevant parties to review your materials and process the DUA. The timeline may be longer if the University needs to negotiate the DUA terms with third parties.

Following review, most DUAs will be approved. There may be some instances where the DUA includes a requirement that the University cannot support, for example, data security standards beyond ITS’s current capabilities or data privacy regulations. In those cases, the University’s Data Security Working Group will work with the researcher and data provider to negotiate terms the University can meet. To avoid delays in the review process, please answer all Data Use Agreement Intake Form questions in detail and write for a general audience without expertise in your data and research.
