Why should my ORCID iD be connected to UAlbany?

Answer

Giving UAlbany permission to connect to your ORCID iD will help the University ensure that researcher's organizational affiliations are standardized in their profiles. This will improve the discoverability of their profiles and scholarship. Also, federal funders are increasingly requiring grant applicants and awardees to have a "digital persistent identifier"  (DPI) for administrative purposes. ORCID is fast becoming the required DPI of such funders, because an ORCID iD is researcher owned, free to the end-user, and interoperable with many systems and platforms (for example: publisher and grant platforms).

By standardizing your ORCID affiliation with UAlbany, your research work will clearly and unequivocally be connected to activities related to your sponsored funding. In addition, as integrations are leveraged, your need to maintain redundant research information will be mitigated. Instead, an ORCID API will connect your activities across platforms without you having to re-enter identical information in each platform.
