Why would I choose to make my work openly available?

Answer

There are advantages for both you and your community when making your work openly available. First, by opening your work you will be increasing your discoverability and access, which research has shown could mean increased readership and, potentially, a citation advantage. Additionally, by making your work open you are being a good neighbor. Researchers, practitioners, and others who would not otherwise be able to access your work due to the prohibitive costs of published work can gain access to content critical for their research, teaching, learning, and practice. As a result, scholarship can advance more quickly and equitably.
