Whenever possible, obtain and cite the original source.  If that is not possible, provide the secondary source in the References list.  Name the original work in the text and cite the secondary source. 

For example, if an article by Whitmire is cited in a work by Waldman, list the Waldman article in the References list. In the text, use the following citation:

 

Whitmire's longitudinal study of undergraduates' academic library experiences (as cited in Waldman, 2003)
