WorldCat is a database of books, videos, journals, and manuscripts held by libraries around the world, including the UAlbany Libraries.

There are two different search interfaces, WorldCat Classic and the more recent WorldCat Discovery. Both can be accessed in the UAlbany Libraries' Database Finder. The version you use is a personal preference.

One advantage to searching WorldCat Discovery is when you find something you want and UAlbany has it, you can quickly link to the UAlbany Libraries Search tool to see if the material is available.  The other advantage to WorldCat Discovery is that it often displays a brief description of the material.

When a book is held by the University at Albany Libraries, A link to the University Libraries Search tool is available next to the phrase "Held by" located at the bottom of a particular WorldCat Discovery entry.

You can initiate an interlibrary loan request for materials that the UAlbany Libraries does not own from either of the WorldCat interfaces.

  • This is how the request link displays in WorldCat Classic: UA Submit request to UAlbany
  • This is how the request link displays in WorldCat Discovery:  Request Item through Interlibrary Loan
