Yes, UAlbany students, faculty, and staff can create a free account on EndNote Online through our subscription to the Web of Science database. This will allow you to take advantage of some, although not all, of the basic functionality of EndNote without buying the desktop version.

UAlbany students, staff, and faculty are eligible for a discount to buy EndNote 21 through OnTheHub Webstore, a partnership with Information Technology Services.

To set up your EndNote Online account:

Go to Library Homepage > Tools > Database Finder > Web of Science > Select ◼️Products from the Web of Science top navigation bar and choose EndNote. Follow the prompts to set up your personal account.

*The difference between EndNote Online, which you can get through our Web of Science subscription, and EndNote Basic, which is free to everyone, is that EndNote Online gives you access to more citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) and allows you to keep more databases as "favorites" in your account. Otherwise, the two are similar. See below.

  • EndNote Basic (Free Version) is a no-cost limited web version with 21 styles and a limited number of filters and connection files. This version is available to anyone. A maximum of 50,000 references and of 2 GB of attachments is allowed.
  • EndNote Online (Web of Science Version) is a limited web-based version available to UAlbany faculty, students, and staff as part of our subscription to Web of Science. Like the free version of EndNote Basic, a maximum of 50,000 references and of 2 GB of attachments is allowed. In addition, the Web of Science version of EndNote Online has over 6,000 styles and hundreds of filters and connection files.
